Birds In Summer Commissions

I was truly moved by the number of visitors at this summer’s Toronto Outdoor Art Show who were touched by my Birds in Summer series, many of whom asked me about the possibility of creating a painting to feature a subject of their choosing. So I’ve developed the Birds in Summer Commission process designed for those folks who wish to honour and remember a special person in their life.

If you’re interested in exploring this idea, I’m very excited to talk more about this with you and begin the process!! The details below are meant to give you a good idea of what you can expect when working with me to create your one-of-a-kind, custom piece.TextBox1V3_330

How it Works:

Step 1:

We’ll schedule our first half-hour Consultation call to talk about your wishes via FaceTime or Skype.

Before our call, I’ll send you a Commission Design Form to fill out and send back to me. This takes about 15 minutes to complete and lets me know more about what you want. It gives you information about my pricing structure and timelines and helps you think about the size and composition of the work. The Form asks questions about who the subject of the work is, what colors you’re attracted to, if there is a descriptive word you’re considering, and if the work is intended as a gift.

During our conversation, we’ll talk about the subject of your commission – this storytelling is a wonderful part of our work together and will help clarify for me what you want to express and to have reflected in the work.

Step 2:

I’ll send you a Commission Confirmation email the day after our call which outlines the details we talked about and gives you a reminder list of what I need from you so I can begin your painting.

This gives you a chance to reflect on our conversation and you’ll be able to review size, price and color palette for approval.

Step 3:

You’ll reply to me by approving, or suggesting changes to, the Commission Confirmation.

When I receive this information from you, I’ll finalize our Commission Agreement and send you two copies for signature.

You’ll send me:

  • one signed Commission Agreement,
  • three to four original photographs, and a
  • non-refundable deposit (50% of the total fee).

I’ll send you a Commission Timeline one week after I receive the materials noted in Step 3 from you. I’ll start work on your painting that same week.

The Timeline will give you a work schedule including the date of our second Consultation call, in about three weeks, when I’ll give you a progress report and show you a draft of the work.

Once you approve the work in progress, I’ll continue work on your piece, aiming to complete it three weeks from the date of approval.

Step 5:

Your finished artwork will be delivered or shipped to you, with the utmost care and respect. The work will be accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authentication which states the name of your artwork, the date of completion, materials used and the location of my studio. The certificate can be used in proof of valuation for insurance and/or future sale.
